The architecture and design of both The Massry Residence and the Nursing Center focus first on care with dignity, according to our Jewish values. The style with which the facilities have been finished reflect our appreciation of the importance of beauty and convenience in enriching our residents’ quality of life.
The mezuzot gracing our doorways serve as a reminder to put aside whatever cares we have and to turn our attention to the sacred work of caring for our elders.
The Nursing Center is, after all, a home, and our synagogue, familiarly called “the shul” is the hearth of our home. It is designed to serve as an intimate chapel or open for a larger gathering. Every Friday afternoon, residents gather there for erev Shabbat led by our coordinator of religious services; Torah services are held every Saturday, thanks to the generosity of community volunteers who lead the prayers.
Occasionally, a funeral for a resident sees overflow crowds.
The synagogue is fully equipped with a ner tamid, prayer books, and books on Jewish learning; yizkor plaques indicate the names of people for whom we say prayers each week.
All Private Rooms and Apartments
Daughters of Sarah Senior Community understands that dignity and privacy are closely linked. We do everything we can to help the men and women who make their homes here have as much autonomy as possible.
The Nursing Center offers only private rooms, all designed on the same plan. Jewish elder care means treating our elders with respect in every way we can. To this end, all 210 resident rooms in Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center are private. Each resident has her or his own bathroom, and bathing areas are located conveniently in each residential pavilion to ensure the greatest privacy and dignity possible.
The décor is homey but not overdone. A bulletin board makes it easy to display photos, grandchildren’s drawings, and prized documents.
Residents and their family members are welcome to personalize them with plants, some favorite furniture, and pictures. Residents may have their own television sets and radios and a variety of other small appliances. Individual telephones can also be installed.
